For those looking to go abroad to learn from local experts and immerse themselves in the healthcare and cultural systems of different areas, see Child Family Health International's website http://www.cfhi.org to learn more about their programs. CFHI programs are not medical missions as they work with existing healthcare systems. CFHI participants gain insight into social and economic factors affecting healthcare in underserved communities and cultivate existing clinical skills while immersed in the local healthcare workforce, transforming perspectives about themselves, global health, & healing.

This reminds me of Smile Train. They use quite a bit of technology for training, but the locals are involved in doing the actual work.
