One thing I learned from a homeless man last week. He isn't homeless because that has stigma. He doesn't have a place right now. And there is a difference.

This woman walked across the USA in every direction. How did she die? She became a popular speaker and one day when she was being driven to an event where she would speak, she died in a car wreck. She wrote a book as well. There are other people who walk and do not have a place to call home.

I heard on NPR (WABE.org) after an oil spill a man refused to ride in cars or anything with oil. He walks. He accepts speaking engagements, but he goes by bike or walks.

This physician is reminded that the place where he calls his real home is where he has his treasures securely kept from rust, moths, and thieves.  Home is where our heart will ultimately reside for the rest of eternity.

Quay and Charlene, the speakers on the homeless panel, gave me the idea of giving flyers from United Way, a pen, paper, bus fare in a plastic zip glide bag to people I meet who are homeless or about to become homeless. I went to several churches Sunday and gave them away to people in the church with the idea that other people would make these and have them ready to share.
